The IDF World Dairy Summit 2011 Parma, Italy from 15 to 19 October 2011

The International Dairy Federation and the Italian National Committee are very glad to welcome you to the IDF World Dairy Summit 2011, which will be held in Parma, Italy from 15 to 19 October 2011.

More details will shortly be available from this website
  • Sustainable Food Security

The world population is predicted to rise to nine billion by 2050. Food production is growing, but hunger remains a worldwide problem.

In the 21st century, over eight hundred million people are undernourished and lack adequate access to food. Sustainable food security is a topic that should involve each level of the world community.

Milk and dairy products, with their high nutritional value, should be basic food in the diet of every population. Ensuring food security - and doing it in a sustainable way - is a challenge for the dairy sector.

The IDF World Dairy Summit 2011 will be an important gathering for all dairy experts from research institutes, industries, farms and authorities to explore and discuss challenges and opportunities in this matter.

  • Venue

The IDF World Dairy Summit 2011 will be held at the Parma Municipality Congress Centre with plenary sessions at the Auditorium Paganini.

The Congress Centre is located in a splendid centuries-old park, a few steps away from the city centre, easily accessible on foot, by bus, bicycle or car.

Originally a sugar factory, it has been renovated and redeveloped by the famous Architect Renzo Piano.

  • Welcome to Parma and its territory

Located in Northern Italy, an hour from Milan and Bologna, Parma is a friendly and pleasant town, famous for its artistic heritage: history, music, culture and culinary traditions such as parmigiano-reggiano cheese, the famous cured Parma ham and culatello, truffles, mushrooms, wines and much more.

The welcoming countryside presents a varied landscape from the Po River to the Appennines, with castles, medieval churches and small charming villages.

Parma is also the Headquarters of the European Food Safety Authority.

The IDF World Dairy Summit 2011 will be a green congress thanks to the support of the Municipality and the Province of Parma: the venue is within walking distance from the city centre, electric buses and bicycles will be available for attendees and recycled paper will be used for printed materials.

A visit to Parma in October will offer a very special occasion to discover the fragrances and colours of the Italian autumn enhanced by an attractive social programme, which will include tours to the most charming Italian Cities, an amazing Golf Tournament, lessons of Italian Cuisine and much more.
